MAI 15
Concert - Moscow Vorontsova, Park, Chibirova, Kurbatov and Sobolev by Ayano Hodouchi at 14/05/2010 11:20 May 15, 2010, 7 pm, Rachmaninov Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, 13 Bolshaya Nikitskaya Ul., m. Okhotny Ryad, m. Arbatskaya. Renowned pianist and pedagogue Mikhail Voskresensky turns 75 this month, and this week there are several concerts in his honour. On Saturday evening, the Conservatory's Rachmaninov Hall is to see several former pupils of the professor come back to their alma mater from different parts of the globe. Participants include Evelina Vorontsova from the Netherlands, Koo Ryeong Park from Japan and Farizat Chibirova from Mexico. Alexei Kurbatov and Sergei Sobolev are also scheduled to play. Their programmes include music by Bach, Mozart, Kapustin, Brahms and Scriabin, and Kurbatov is to show off his own two-hands version of Stravinsky's iconic "The Rite of Spring". Hearing these pianists of different ages and backgrounds will be a key to seeing how Voskresensky has left his mark on piano music. Voskresensky himself came from a long line of pianists "descended" from Franz Liszt - Liszt taught Alexander Ziloti, who taught Konstantin Igumnov, who taught Lev Oborin, who taught Voskresensky. The energetic, inspired pedagogue has juggled an active concert career with teaching for many decades now, and he faithfully keeps alive the tradition started by Liszt.
